Inyan Trace Art Studio will be pleased to discuss a custom urn design for your loved one.
Here are a few suggestions of ways to personalize an urn:
- Charms or small personal items (rings, lockets, etc) may be used in place of or with beads on the hemp string urn designs.
- Specific shapes may be requested for urn designs that have doves or other objects atop them. You may request a flower, leaf, shell or other personally meaningful shape to be used atop the urn.
- Specific designs or shapes may be stamped or carved into the body of the urn.
- Urns can be made in specific sizes, shapes, colors and finishes. If you see an urn shape that you like but need a different size or prefer a different glaze or finish, please call the studio and we’ll be happy to work with you in designing the perfect urn for your loved one.

Earth-friendly Biodegardable or Eco-urns
Inyan Trace Art Studio's earth-friendly biodegradable urns are made of unfired paper clay. Paper clay is simply clay with tiny plant fibers mixed into it, which adds strength to the unfired clay. Natural mineral oxides mixed with wheat paste (cooked wheat flour and water) or casein (a natural milk protein) can be used as colorants.
When left out in the elements, the urn form will slowly degrade back into the earth without harming the environment, as each part of the urn is a natural material. Some people use these urns to bury their loved ones ashes in the ground, while others use them for burial at sea. These urns can also be placed on the ground surface so that the elements will eventually “scatter” the loved ones ashes naturally.

Beautiful artist-made urns are an unusual alternative to factory-made urns
An alternative to burial, fine art urns bring a personal touch to your memorial ceremony or religious remembrance. Unique fine-art cremation urns are sized to accommodate all the ashes of a loved one. Handmade ceramic memorial urns are for smaller quantities of ashes when each family member wishes to retain some ashes as a keepsake. Inyan Trace Art Studio can also accommodate requests for an earth-friendly alternative container with their biodegradable urns, eco-urns and other enhancements to green funeral planning, as well as custom orders for items such as urns for two. For your convenience, urns can be shipped directly to the funeral home or crematory.
